Tata Power has announced an enterprise-wide collaboration with Databricks to build a future-ready data and AI platform across its business clusters. The company said the move is meant to improve operational efficiency, support smarter decision-making and speed up digital innovation as its energy business shifts further toward renewable integration, smart grids and a larger consumer-facing portfolio.
“Tata Power’s decision to standardize on Databricks underscores the growing importance of data and AI in transforming the energy sector. As they build a unified, enterprise-wide platform, we are excited to support their journey toward smarter, more efficient operations, ” said Kamalkanth Tummala, Managing Director for India at Databricks.
According to the announcement, the platform will be used across grid operations, power planning, billing, renewable forecasting, solar manufacturing and rooftop businesses. Tata Power said the goal is to replace fragmented analytics systems with a single, scalable environment that can process data in near real time and support a single-view customer experience.
At the center of the rollout is Databricks’ data and AI stack, which Tata Power plans to use to unify data engineering, analytics and AI on one platform. The system will integrate edge, operational and enterprise data, while keeping governance and security in place. Tata Power also highlighted Databricks’ Genie, an AI agent that lets employees ask questions in natural language and get structured answers from enterprise data. TechCircle’s report on the same announcement said the platform will also support self-service analytics, so business teams can access data without relying only on central IT.
This is a practical move for a utility business that now has to manage a mix of conventional generation, renewable assets and direct-to-consumer services. Tata Power said its transformation is tied to energy transition priorities, including renewable integration, smart grid operations and a growing B2C portfolio. In the company’s own words, the platform is meant to strengthen its digital foundation and support more agile, customer-centric operations.

Tata Power said it wants to consolidate enterprise data on Databricks and use that base for new initiatives and next-generation AI applications. The company also said the program will be anchored by its internal Centre of Excellence and supported by a partner ecosystem. In its corporate profile, Tata Power said it has a diversified portfolio of over 16 GW and remains committed to achieving Net Zero before 2045.
