Samsung reported the data breach incident that may have exposed some US customer’s personal information like name, contact details, date of birth, and their Samsung devices details like registration numbers. However, Samsung said the incident had not affected the customer’s social security number or debit/credit card details. Samsung is informing its customers to make them aware of this security incident.
What Happened?
Samsung says on its Q&A page that in July 2022, an unauthorized third party acquired information from some of Samsung’s US systems. And now Samsung detected the security incident on August 4 through its ongoing investigation on the matter, they found the personal information of some customers was affected, and further action has been taken to secure the affected systems. In addition, Samsung has engaged with top outside cybersecurity firms to investigate the matter further and ensure the system’s security. They are also coordinating with law enforcement.
