Intel and Fortinet announced that they are working together to develop Fortinet Security Processor 6 (SP6). SP6 is a security hardware effort aimed at improving performance, scale, resilience and supply chain diversity for organizations. Intel’s newsroom also listed the announcement under its Manufacturing section on the same date.
The companies say the move is an expansion of their long-standing relationship, with Fortinet bringing its purpose-built ASIC expertise and Intel contributing semiconductor design, packaging and manufacturing capabilities.
The collaboration will accelerate and strengthen SP6 development, while also helping improve the strength and diversity of its global supply chain. Intel said its semiconductor leadership can help cybersecurity vendors move faster on critical security technologies while building a stronger, more resilient, diversified supply chain.

Fortinet says the SP6 processor is part of its long-term ASIC roadmap and is meant to support increasingly sophisticated security services and demanding performance requirements. The companies will open additional collaboration across chip technology, manufacturing and the infrastructure behind future cybersecurity innovation.
Fortinet is extending a custom-security-processor model with Intel’s manufacturing and packaging resources behind it.
Security vendors are still investing in dedicated hardware for performance-sensitive products. Fortinet says its security processors are a differentiator, and this cooperation is meant to strengthen that foundation rather than replace it.
