Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) opened its first “Samsung Skill Development Center” at the Government Polytechnic in Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Karnataka.
They have established five laboratories for students to explore topics, including Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML), Cybersecurity, Automation, Robotics, and Core Engineering.
Balajee Sowrirajan, the Executive Vice President and Managing Director of SSIR, said, “This initiative is a big step in giving students in rural Karnataka more practical learning experiences. By teaching students about AI, IoT, and other new technologies, we aim to create endless opportunities and ensure that India thrives in the global digital economy.”
The opening event was attended by guests, including Dr. Roopkala M. Shashidhar, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation, and Smt. Manjushree N, Commissioner of the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education, and Smt. Geethanjali S, Principal of Government Polytechnic KGF, along with over 500 students, teachers, and officials from Samsung and the Government of Karnataka.
This new center builds on earlier work that SSIR did through the Samsung Innovation Campus (SIC), where they teamed up with the Karnataka government to provide training in AI and IoT to over 1,000 students and teachers across 37 polytechnic colleges. The SIC program included support for classrooms, hands-on kits, and training materials to help strengthen technology skills in the state.
