On 4 November 2025, Orano, a major French nuclear materials company, and Capgemini, a global technology & consulting firm, announced the deployment of the first intelligent humanoid robot in the nuclear sector.

The robot, named Hoxo, is at the Orano Melox Ecole des Métiers in the Gard region of France. Hoxo uses built-in artificial intelligence (AI) and special sensors. These help it see and move on its own, perform technical tasks, and work with people. The robot is designed to copy human movements and work with teams inside nuclear facilities, even in difficult situations.

For the next four months, teams at Orano Melox will test what the robot can do. They will check how well it moves, how accurate it is, and how it uses AI. This new robot is flexible and can be improved in the future. The goal is to help factories work better and maybe support workers with robot help.

It is interesting if robots like Hoxo can handle routine, repetitive, or hazardous tasks (inspection, event response, maintenance), it will increase the efficiency and safety of the workers. It can reduce human exposure to hazardous environments (radiation, confined spaces) could improve worker safety and reduce incident risk. This development strengthens Capgemini’s position in robotics/AI (beyond software) and “Industry 4.0 / Physical AI” services.

“Hoxo gives us new ways to work. It is smart, easy to use, and works well with our teams. We want to keep improving this robot to help us with safety and to stay competitive in the future,” said Arnaud Capdepon, Director of Orano Melox.

“This project brings together robotics, AI, computer vision, and digital twins. It changes how humans and machines work together in difficult places and expands what robots can do in factories. With this project, we use the power of AI to solve Orano’s biggest challenges,” said Pascal Brier, Chief Innovation Officer at Capgemini.
