HPE and KDDI Corporation have announced that they will work together to open the Osaka Sakai Data Center by early 2026. This center will help startups and businesses by providing NVIDIA AI tools for creating AI applications and training large language models (LLMs).

In this collaboration, KDDI and HPE will establish a specialized system utilizing the NVIDIA NVL72 platform, developed by HPE, which is based on the new NVIDIA Blackwell technology.

The Osaka Sakai Data Center will use a mixed cooling method that combines air cooling and direct liquid cooling. This will help reduce the center’s environmental impact.

The Osaka Sakai Data Center will support AI businesses in Japan and worldwide, helping organizations and individuals develop generative AI models or require fast AI processing capabilities. KDDI plans to offer cloud-based AI computing services through WAKONX, its platform designed for the AI era.

The NVIDIA NVL72 system by HPE is designed to support large and advanced AI setups. It uses NVIDIA’s powerful computing, networking, and software to create large AI systems that are efficient in energy and performance by using advanced direct liquid cooling. HPE has a lot of experience in building large AI systems and has been using liquid cooling technology for many years. This expertise helps KDDI set up the system quickly.

HPE also provides strong support for complicated cooling setups. This system, which includes NVIDIA accelerated networking components like NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand, NVIDIA Spectrum-X Ethernet, and NVIDIA BlueField-3 DPUs, ensures fast and reliable connectivity for various AI tasks. Customers can also utilize the NVIDIA AI Enterprise platform in conjunction with the KDDI system to expedite their AI projects.

Antonio Neri, president and CEO of HPE, said, “Our partnership with KDDI is an important step in supporting AI innovation in Japan. We will provide strong computing tools that help create smarter solutions, improve productivity, and enhance technological leadership.”

Hiromichi Matsuda, president and CEO of KDDI, added, “We are excited to start building a powerful GPU system at our Osaka-Sakai Data Center with HPE’s help. HPE’s extensive knowledge in supercomputing and advanced cooling will be key to developing the next generation of AI data centers. Together, we aim to shape a sustainable future with AI.”
