Philips, a well-known company in health technology, shared important findings from its 10th annual Future Health Index (FHI) 2025 report about healthcare in India. The report shows that many healthcare workers in the country believe that artificial intelligence (AI) can greatly assist in providing better patient care, especially as India faces increasing healthcare needs and a shortage of staff.

The report reveals that 76% of healthcare professionals in India believe AI can improve patient outcomes. This indicates a growing confidence in the potential of technology to deliver better healthcare.

This year’s Future Health Index collected information from over 1,900 healthcare workers and 16,000 patients in 16 countries. The India findings include opinions from both public and private healthcare workers.

The results show that AI is seen as a tool not only for making processes more efficient but also for improving the quality of care, expanding access to healthcare services, and helping reduce tiredness among healthcare professionals.

Bharath Sesha, Managing Director of Philips in India, said, “India is at an important moment for changing healthcare. We see a growing trust in AI not only for efficiency but also to help in achieving better clinical results and providing broader access.”

Here are some key findings from the India report:

Supporting Healthcare Workers:

  • 75% of healthcare professionals think that training supported by AI is helpful for less experienced staff, especially in areas that lack adequate services.
  • 78% believe AI can help make patient examinations more consistent, addressing the need for standardized care.
  • 87% feel AI can improve access to clinical research.
  • 72% say AI can provide accurate and timely care.
  • More than half (56%) of healthcare professionals in India are already involved in developing AI tools, but only 40% think these tools meet their day-to-day needs. This highlights the need for staff involvement in creating helpful technology.

Improving Care Processes:

  • 76% of healthcare workers believe AI can help direct patients to the right care, which is especially valuable with limited healthcare resources.
  • 78% think AI can reduce waiting times for patients.
  • 60% say it can increase the time doctors spend with patients.
  • 80% see AI as a way to automate repetitive tasks, which can lessen the workload.
  • 65% believe AI can make medical procedures quicker.

Optimism Mixed with Caution:

  • While the future looks promising, there are important issues to address to fully utilize AI in India’s healthcare.
  • 45% of professionals want clear rules about how to use AI and what its limitations are.
  • 44% seek more information about legal responsibilities when using AI in patient care.
  • 31% are concerned about data security.
  • Additionally, 67% worry that bias in AI tools might increase inequalities in healthcare.
