Lenovo’s CFO WaiMing Wong and CLO Laura Quatela to Retire

Lenovo Group is today announcing the upcoming retirements of WaiMing Wong, Executive Vice President (EVP) and the group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and Laura Quatela, Senior Vice President (SVP) and Chief Legal and Corporate Responsibility Officer (CLO), effective from March 31, 2025. They are appointed to the Lenovo Board of Directors as non-executive directors.

WaiMing Wong joined Lenovo as an independent non-executive director in 1999 and has held the role of group CFO for the past 17 years (since 2007), and Laura Quatela joined Lenovo in 2016 as Chief Legal Officer, with the role later redesignated to Chief Legal and Corporate Responsibility Officer.

At the same time, the Company is announcing that effective April 1, 2025, Winston Cheng, currently Senior Vice President and Deputy CFO, will be the new group CFO and that David Carroll, currently Vice President and General Counsel for the Intelligent Devices Group and Group Operations, will be CLO. Both will join Lenovo’s Executive Committee (LEC) and report directly to Chairman and CEO Yuanqing Yang.

Commenting on these changes, Yuanqing Yang, Chairman and CEO of Lenovo, said: “WaiMing and Laura have both made significant contributions to Lenovo’s global success, playing pivotal roles in transforming Lenovo into the global technology powerhouse we are today. While we congratulate both on their retirements and new chapter, we look forward to their ongoing contributions and valuable insights in their new roles as non-executive directors of Lenovo.”

Winston Cheng joined Lenovo in April 2024 as Senior Vice President and Deputy CFO of Lenovo Group, bringing a wealth of experience from leadership roles in the investment banking industry and technology companies.

Prior to joining Lenovo, he served as the Global Co-Head of Technology, Media and Telecom, and Investment Banking at The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC). Prior to joining HSBC, Winston was President of International and a member of the group investment committee at JD.com. He also served as a director on the boards of Arizon RFID, GoTo (Formerly GoJek), Tiki.com and TCL Electronics (formerly TCL Multimedia).

Winston Cheng was an investment banker for over 20 years, holding senior leadership roles as managing director and head of Asia TMT Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Asia Technology Investment Banking, and Consumer Retail Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs. He has extensive leadership experience in the technology sector as a senior executive, board director, investor, and advisor. Winston Cheng graduated from the University of California, Berkeley.

David Carroll joined Lenovo in 2014 as part of the Group’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility. He served as General Counsel for Motorola until January 2021 and currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel for the Intelligent Devices Group and Group Operations while also managing legal support for Trademarks & Marketing and Data Privacy and Security.

As a lawyer, David Carroll also has the unique experience of running the Global Brand Licensing business. In David’s new role, he brings a wealth of experience in a variety of complex legal matters, including IP, licensing, litigation, trademark, marketing, privacy, product security, trade, and regulatory compliance.

Prior to joining Motorola, David Carroll worked in-house for department store chain Sears and health and beauty company Amway Corporation. David Carroll holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Illinois and earned his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago.
