Vodafone Idea has been actively discussing new technologies with Samsung, such as a virtualized Radio Access Network (VRAN) solution for its 4G and 5G deployments.
With aim to expand Vodafone Idea’s 4G footprint and introduce 5G, Vodafone Idea and Samsung have been engaged for the last 12-18 months on network trials in Chennai, India.
Further to the encouraging trial response and at-par performance with incumbent suppliers, Vodafone Idea to expand Samsung deployments in the Karnataka and Bihar circles.
These setups have enabled Vodafone Idea to fulfil its 5G Minimum Rollout Obligation (MRO) in these three circles (Chennai, Karnataka and Bihar) with NSA VRAN architecture.
Vodafone Idea is committed to expand its collaboration with Samsung for the VRAN solution and to harness the cloud benefits in the RAN domain. This unique blend of traditional RAN deployments and VRAN allows Vodafone Idea to embrace new technologies and architecture with better performance and customer experience.

Samsung’s RAN solution allows Vodafone Idea to enhance network management with increased flexibility, scalability, and resource efficiency. It will ensure high quality, reliability, and strength while delivering performance comparable to traditional hardware-based equipment. Additionally, it offers the capability to support a broad array of spectrums and technologies, including 5G, 4G, and 2G.
