Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure, recently announced that it will acquire ‘the Great Lakes Data Racks & Cabinets family of companies’ for $200 million.
The Great Lakes is known for creating and building customized data rack enclosures and other important products used in data centers. The cost of this acquisition is about 11.5 times the expected earnings for 2026, taking into account possible cost savings and new opportunities for selling products together.
This acquisition will enable Vertiv to develop ready-to-use, future-focused rack solutions that are ideal for businesses, edge computing, colocation, and large-scale AI computing markets.
Great Lakes was founded in 1985 and is based in Edinboro, Pennsylvania, in the U.S. The company has manufacturing and assembly facilities in the U.S. and Europe. It offers a range of products, including standard and custom racks, integrated cabinets, seismic cabinets, and options for better cable management for both new and existing buildings.
This acquisition will boost Vertiv’s ability to offer a complete set of products and services to meet the needs of critical digital infrastructure.

By acquiring Great Lakes, Vertiv will strengthen its position as a leading provider in the critical technology space. The two companies together will be able to offer complete engineered infrastructure solutions that go beyond simple options, helping to solve the challenging issues of new AI technology.
Bringing together Great Lakes’ expertise with Vertiv’s current products is expected to provide many benefits for customers. This will include easier sourcing of infrastructure, faster product deployment with pre-made solutions, better efficiency with Vertiv’s power and cooling solutions integrated into the factory, more scalability for AI and edge computing applications, and thorough support through Vertiv’s global service network.
The deal still needs to meet usual closing conditions, including getting approval from regulators under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025.
