Palo Alto Networks, a leader in cybersecurity, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Protect AI, a company specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications security. This acquisition aims to enhance Palo Alto Networks’ capabilities and address the emerging security challenges associated with AI technologies.
The attack surface has expanded significantly as enterprises and governmental bodies increasingly incorporate complex AI ecosystems, comprising models, agents, infrastructures, tools, APIs, and third-party components. Mitigating cybersecurity threats like model manipulation, data poisoning, and prompt injection attacks requires tailored security solutions. Palo Alto Networks has proactively developed AI security solutions, and Protect AI has established expertise in this crucial arena.
Anand Oswal, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Palo Alto Networks, emphasized that as AI applications become integral to business operations, they introduce risks beyond the scope of traditional security measures. He noted that incorporating Protect AI’s solutions will enable businesses to construct AI applications with an enhanced security paradigm.
Upon completion of the acquisition, Protect AI’s suite of solutions and its team will augment Palo Alto Networks’ efforts to advance the development of its AI security platform, Prisma AIRS. This platform is poised to provide industry-leading security for organizations integrating AI. Users will benefit from comprehensive security throughout the AI development lifecycle, with features focused on model scanning, thorough risk assessments, generative AI runtime security, posture management, and agent security.
Ian Swanson, Co-Founder and CEO of Protect AI, expressed enthusiasm about the merger, highlighting the potential to scale their mission of fortifying the AI landscape for organizations of varying sizes. He pointed out the synergy between their vision and Palo Alto Networks’ ability to leverage operational scale and cybersecurity expertise. Following the deal’s closure, the Protect AI team—including its CEO and founders—will integrate into Palo Alto Networks. The acquisition is contingent upon standard closing conditions, including regulatory approvals, and is anticipated to be finalized by the first quarter of fiscal 2026.
