Isuzu Motors Limited and Fujitsu Limited have announced a new partnership to work together on developing advanced software-defined vehicles (SDVs) for commercial use. With this partnership, both companies aim to solve issues in the logistics industry, such as improving efficiency and achieving carbon neutrality.
Isuzu is known for its commercial vehicles, while Fujitsu is strong in digital technology. Together, they will create better systems for updating software, train new software developers, make the development process faster, and improve their technical infrastructure.
In October 2022, Isuzu and Fujitsu, through their jointly invested company Transtron Corporation, which launched GATEX. GATEX is a platform that helps manage and support commercial vehicle operations. To date, Isuzu has used GATEX to provide solutions for about 570,000 commercial vehicles, including advanced maintenance programs and tracking systems.
By developing SDVs, companies can use data more effectively. This will help improve logistics efficiency, provide better visibility of operations, and reduce CO2 emissions by managing energy use in Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Fuel Cell Vehicles (FCVs). The partnership will enhance GATEX as a top platform for using data in these vehicles, encouraging innovative solutions for the logistics sector.
Through this partnership, Fujitsu will speed up software development for vehicles, aiming to solve social problems and contribute to better logistics efficiency and less environmental impact. Together, Isuzu and Fujitsu hope to solve major challenges in the logistics industry and build a strong foundation for future innovations in commercial SDVs.
