10 Reasons Why Small Businesses Need to Invest in Cloud Computing

Small Business Need Cloud Computing

The advent of the internet and its many tools compelled small businesses to adopt it. These days, a small business owner invests in a website or sets up accounts in all leading social media sites before searching for an office space. The reason is simple – a small business can survive among its established counterparts with a strong web presence. On that note, the advent of cloud computing has made it easier for small businesses to have a reliable and robust internet presence.

How?

There are many reasons for that, but before getting into the details, one should learn what cloud computing is.

What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing is defined as a digital service that allows a business to store its business-critical data on remotely located and secured servers instead of its in-house IT infrastructure.

Below are the 10 reasons why small businesses need to invest in cloud computing.

1. It promotes flexibility

Cloud computing allows a business to be flexible. By adopting cloud services, a small business owner can scale up or scale down the resources allotted to their company in no time. This allows the SME to remain relevant and competitive all the while promoting operational efficiency.

2. It makes data recovery a breeze

Onsite IT infrastructures cannot cover the data recovery needs of a small business. If the data is stored in-house and is lost to a natural calamity, accidental fire, or data theft, the small business will be on the losing end.

With cloud computing, data recovery becomes a breeze. Even if data stored in a PC within a small business is lost, the same can be retrieved in an instant from the remote servers of the cloud computing service provider.

3. No need for time-consuming software updates

One of the most dreaded aspects of maintaining an onsite IT infrastructure is the regular software updates.

The reason is simple – it takes a lot of time.

Why not skip it? Well, it will leave a small business vulnerable to online attacks.

What is the solution? A small business can steer clear from the burden of software updates by adopting cloud computing services.

Cloud computing service providers have the resources in place that allow them to keep their infrastructure up-to-date.

4. It is a cost-efficient solution

A small business has limited financial resources. Hence, maintaining an on-site IT infrastructure is not feasible. By adopting cloud computing services, a small business can reduce its operational costs by many folds as it won’t be spending a boatload of money on an in-house IT maintenance team or on an office space that has dedicated clean or IT rooms.

5. It allows the workforce to work remotely

Cloud computing services can also allow a small business to remain ‘in business’ at uncertain times. Take for instance the currently raging COVID – 19 pandemic. A lot of start-ups and SMEs had to close up shop only because they had onsite IT infrastructure that did not support remote working culture. Only those small businesses that adopted cloud computing services from the get-go, survived the incessant lockdowns as it is the only IT infrastructure that supports and promotes remote work culture.

6. It promotes team collaboration

Cloud computing also promotes seamless and real-time team collaboration for projects that requires a lot of people to come and work together. It is also the best solution for small businesses that have hired people who reside at different time zones.

7. Better control over document versions

Cloud computing offers small business leaders to have better control over the business-critical data their venture generates every day. Onsite IT infrastructures save data locally. Hence, if a file is altered, the original copy of the file will also reflect the changes made and if the alterations are wrong (intended or otherwise), the file will be lost forever.

Cloud computing services come with a dedicated data backup function that keeps the original copy of a file intact. This ensures that even if the shared copies of the document are wrongly altered, the original copy of the file will remain accessible.

8. Enhanced cyber security

Cloud computing service providers have dedicated security teams and proprietary online security technology in place that allow them to offer small businesses better data security. This in turn allows a business to make sure that it never falls prey to data breaches or privacy attacks.

9. It allows a small business to have a competitive edge

Cloud computing services allow small business leaders to improve the experience their company offers to its intended target audience. The best part, to achieve this competitive advantage, a small business owner would not need to bleed their bank accounts dry as compared to in-house IT infrastructure, cloud computing services are cheaper!

10. It is a sustainable solution

In case a small business wants to keep its carbon footprint low, it should adopt cloud computing services. As the demand for resources fluctuates within a small business, the performance of the allotted server from the cloud service provider will scale up or scale down automatically. In this way, the whole process becomes greener and sustainable all the while allowing small business leaders to steer clear from high utility bills.

Conclusion

It is to be noted that the benefits mentioned above can only be enjoyed by small business leaders when they have chosen a revered provider of cloud computing services. Hence, it is a good idea to choose a cloud computing service provider that is reputed and has been in the sector for a while, offering its services.
