Windows 10 Bug Worries Working from Home Employees Amid COVID-19

Microsoft Windows 10 new bug preventing Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and other apps users connect the internet with proxy connections or VPNs. Most of the companies have implemented work from home policy to their employees amid COVID-19, arranged laptop, desktop, and required hardware to their home so they can start working. 

Microsoft released a warning to its user’s about Windows 10 bug, which is causing problems to Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, and other productivity apps connecting the internet. This Windows 10 bug affects users using proxy connections and virtual private network (VPN). The bug appears at a horrifying pandemic COVID-19 time, and it is impacting severely. The majority of employees are using Windows 10, and many of them are accessing their system from home remotely for the first time due to lockdown and COVID-19 health concerns. The Windows 10 bug can also affect the user’s ability to connect to the internet, usually.

Microsoft says, “Devices using a manual or auto-configured proxy, especially with a virtual private network (VPN), might show limited or no internet connection status in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) in the notification area. This might happen when connected or disconnected to a VPN or after changing state between the two,”.

The Microsoft Windows 10 internet connectivity related bug worrying millions of employees worldwide. Giving them a hard time completing their official task with Microsoft’s productivity applications like Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Outlook using a virtual private network (VPN), or proxy connections.

Windows 10 bug impacting all supported versions of Windows 10 that have applied the February 27 cumulative update KB4535996 or any of the 3 subsequent cumulative updates – is blocking these core productivity app- Office 365, Microsoft Teams, Outlook from connecting to the internet.  

Making matters more critical for Windows 10 users, connectivity internet is more likely to be disrupted when implementing or connecting and disconnecting from a VPN, which many users are likely to be doing a lot under the current circumstances.  

“Devices with this issue might also have issues reaching the internet using applications that use WinHTTP or WinInet. Examples of apps that might be affected on devices in this state are as follows but not limited to Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Office365, Outlook, Internet Explorer 11, and some version of Microsoft Edge.”

Microsoft says Windows 10 users “might be able to mitigate the issue by restarting your device,” but that’s still going to be a drain on productivity and a source of frustration.

Microsoft to quickly release an out of band fix in early April 2020 for a Windows 10 internet connectivity related bug.

Microsoft considers the bug a critical issue, Microsoft advice to its users, restarting your device might help decrease the problem. They are planning to release an out-of-band fix in “early April 2020”. The update will only be made available on the Microsoft Update Catalog.
