In a major strategic move signalling its ambition to become a leading player in AI infrastructure, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a strategic partnership with a major international investment management firm, TPG, to accelerate its “HyperVault” AI data-centre platform.
The investment will support the development of AI-ready infrastructure with a capacity exceeding one gigawatt (GW) over the next few years. This partnership is a major step in TCS’s goal to become the leading technology services company powered by artificial intelligence (AI). TCS plans to fund HyperVault through a combination of equity from both TCS and TPG and debt financing.
Together, the two companies will invest up to ₹18,000 crore in the coming years. Out of this total, TPG will invest up to ₹8,820 crore and is expected to hold between 27.5% and 49% of HyperVault.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of TCS, expressed enthusiasm about TPG joining their efforts to build large-scale AI data centres in India that meet the increasing demand for AI technology. He emphasized that this partnership will enhance TCS’s collaboration with major technology companies and AI firms.
Jim Coulter, Executive Chairman of TPG and a Managing Partner of TPG Rise Climate, stated that they are excited to collaborate with TCS and appreciate their long-standing relationship with the Tata Group, which shares their vision for innovation and sustainability. He noted that data centres are complex assets that connect green energy, technology, and real estate. TPG looks forward to using its expertise in these areas to work with TCS to advance India’s digital infrastructure in a way that is positive for the environment and to build a more resilient future for the country’s digital economy.
TCS’s tie-up with TPG to launch its HyperVault AI data centre venture represents a significant strategic inflexion point, moving from pure IT services to owning infrastructure aligned with the AI wave.
