Qualcomm has announced that it will acquire Alphawave IP Group plc (AWE.L), a company focused on connecting technologies, through Aqua Acquisition Sub LLC, which is a subsidiary of Qualcomm. The deal values Alphawave at about $2.4 billion.
The goal of this acquisition is to help Qualcomm grow its business in the data centers segment. Alphawave Semi is known for its advanced technologies that enable quick data transfers while using less power. Their products are essential for major applications, including data centers, AI, and data storage.
This acquisition could be a game-changer for Qualcomm, enabling it to enhance its product offerings and better position itself in the competitive landscape of advanced computing.
Cristiano Amon, the president and CEO of Qualcomm, highlighted that Alphawave’s technologies complement Qualcomm’s energy-efficient processors. He expressed confidence that together, they can create better technology solutions for data centers and improve computing performance in many growing sectors.
Tony Pialis, the president and CEO of Alphawave Semi, also shared his excitement about the acquisition, viewing it as a chance for both companies to work together and bring more value to their customers. By combining their strengths, they aim to expand their products and enhance their technological skills to lead in AI computing and connectivity solutions. The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2026, but this will depend on meeting certain conditions like getting approvals from regulators and shareholders of Alphawave Semi, as well as approval from the High Court in the UK.
