IBM and Anthropic Forge Strategic Partnership to Redefine Enterprise AI Development with Security and Governance

October 7, 2025: IBM and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership to integrate Claude, Anthropic’s cutting-edge AI model family into IBM’s enterprise software portfolio. The collaboration, unveiled at IBM TechXchange 2025.

Through this partnership, Claude will be added to select IBM software products, starting with IBM’s new smart tool for developers. This tool assists with various tasks related to creating and updating software, making it easier for businesses. Currently, some IBM clients are testing this tool, and within IBM itself, over 6,000 users are evaluating it. They say it helps them work faster, improving their productivity by about 45%.

The collaboration introduces Claude’s capabilities into IBM’s watsonx Code Assistant, Orchestrate, and Project Bob, the company’s next-generation AI development and orchestration tools.

“IBM has been a leader in business technology for many years because we know how to implement solutions on a large scale in important environments,” said Dinesh Nirmal, SVP of Software at IBM. “This partnership improves our software by adding smart AI tools while still focusing on security and reliability that our clients trust. We’re giving development teams AI that works well with their needs, not experimental tools that might create new problems.”

“Companies want AI that they can rely on for their programming, data, and daily operations,” said Mike Krieger, Chief Product Officer at Anthropic. “Claude has become a preferred AI for developers in top companies because we focus on safety and dependability. This partnership with IBM allows us to extend that commitment to more businesses while building open standards that make AI helpful in work settings.”

IBM and Anthropic’s partnership is relevant to regulated sectors like banking, healthcare, and government, areas where IBM already has deep roots. By embedding Anthropic’s models within IBM’s watsonx governance layer, enterprises can deploy AI assistants and developers without compromising data confidentiality or auditability. Every AI interaction can be tracked, versioned, and explained.

Early access programs for the Claude-powered IBM tools are already underway, with general availability expected in early 2026. IBM plans to extend Claude integrations across its AI, data, and automation suites, while Anthropic will continue refining its model alignment and safety features for enterprise contexts.
