In a bid to fortify its position at the intersection of AI and enterprise software, Salesforce announced today that it has officially completed its acquisition of Informatica, an AI-powered cloud data management company.
By acquiring Informatica’s capabilities in data cataloging, integration, governance, quality, metadata-management and master data management (MDM), Salesforce is positioning itself to deliver a more robust infrastructure for its AI-driven platform.
With this acquisition of Informatica, Salesforce signals its intent to be not just a CRM leader, but an “agentic enterprise” platform, one where applications, agents, human workflows and data are deeply unified.
“You need to ensure your data is accurate to ensure your AI is effective,” said Marc Benioff, Chair and CEO of Salesforce. “Data and context are essential for our Agentforce technology. Without clean, connected, and reliable data, there is no true intelligence, only misconceptions. Informatica is the trusted platform that transforms scattered enterprise data into useful context, enabling every agent to think, act, and achieve results with precision. When companies manage their data effectively, their AI also performs well, making Agentforce incredibly powerful.”
“With Informatica, we will provide a governed and complete data platform that delivers more intelligent, contextual, and autonomous experiences across Agentforce 360. This platform connects humans and AI agents in the enterprise,” said Steve Fisher, President and Chief Product Officer of Salesforce.
Enhancing Key Platform Components
1. Achieving Data Clarity with Data 360: Informatica will strengthen Data 360, making sure that data from various organizations is unified, clear, trustworthy, and actionable.
2. Complete Integration with MuleSoft: MuleSoft, a leader in application integration and API management, combined with Informatica’s advanced data integration and governance skills, will create a comprehensive integration offering. This will enable customers to fully access all enterprise data and systems for the AI era.
3. Elevating the Agentforce 360 Platform: Together, Informatica and Salesforce will provide a vital data foundation that allows autonomous AI agents to understand and act on reliable data.
4. Context-Rich Insights for Tableau: Users of Tableau will gain richer, context-driven insights thanks to a more accessible and better-understood data landscape.
Furthermore, the acquisition will enhance Salesforce’s unique metadata advantage, representing the objects, fields, and relationships that define the Salesforce ecosystem.
“Joining Salesforce allows us to significantly speed up our mission as the ‘neutral partner’ in AI-powered data management, helping organisations realise the full potential of their data and AI,” said Amit Walia, CEO of Informatica. “By integrating Informatica’s data management abilities and ecosystem directly into the Agentforce 360 platform, businesses worldwide can foster innovation, efficiency, and growth by using a single provider that connects applications, reliable data, and AI agents.”
