Honeywell will provide a modified version of its reliable GTCP 36-150 auxiliary power units, along with its lightweight and easy-to-maintain Honeywell Attune system.
Honeywell announced that Bell Textron Inc., a part of Textron Inc., has chosen Honeywell’s 36-150 auxiliary power unit (APU) and Honeywell Attune™ for the U.S. Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA).
The 36-150 APU helps aircraft be ready for missions by providing extra electrical and hydraulic power. Honeywell Attune is a lightweight and low-maintenance system that efficiently cools cabins and electronic components. It uses advanced technology to create cold air or liquid as needed for the FLRAA aircraft.
“FLRAA will give the U.S. Army new long-distance, fast transport abilities to be ready against new threats,” said Rich DeGraff, president of Control Systems at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. “We believe that our reliable 36-150 APU and Honeywell Attune™ will meet the Army’s needs during the FLRAA project and in service that will last beyond 2050. Honeywell looks forward to continuing to support the Army and its future aircraft.”
The FLRAA APU comes from Honeywell’s successful 36-150 APU series, which is known for its reliability and fuel efficiency. Honeywell has delivered over 10,000 of these units for more than 20 commercial and military uses since they started being used. The 36-150 APU is currently used in the Army’s UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache helicopters.
Honeywell Attune™ is the latest innovation from Honeywell, designed for efficient cooling. With many years of experience, Honeywell has created Honeywell Attune™ to be lighter and more powerful than older systems, being up to 35 percent lighter and 20 percent more efficient while providing similar cooling. Honeywell Attune™ gives Bell a safer technical option, as it has already been used successfully in commercial airplanes for cabin and system cooling. It also utilizes Honeywell’s Solstice zd refrigerant, making it a more environmentally friendly cooling system.
