Synopsys and SiMa.ai announce a collaboration with the aim of providing a comprehensive solution for automotive manufacturers seeking to expedite the development of workload-specific silicon and software essential for enabling advanced artificial intelligence features in next-generation vehicles.
This integrated solution will leverage Synopsys’ industry-leading Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, automotive-grade intellectual property (IP), and hardware-assisted verification methodologies alongside SiMa.ai’s cutting-edge machine learning accelerator (MLA) IP and robust ML software development environment.
This collaboration will facilitate maximum customization across IP, subsystems, chiplets, and system-on-chip (SoC) designs. With Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) functionalities emerging as critical competitive differentiators for automotive OEMs, a diverse array of applications is driving the need for generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) capabilities. Achieving these requires the deployment of AI at the edge to enable real-time, multi-modal in-car experiences.
Current software-defined vehicle (SDV) architectures, however, lack the capability to accommodate the extensive variability of applications that necessitate enhanced computing performance, reliability, and efficiency.
Automakers require AI-ready, workload-verified, power-efficient software frameworks to thrive in this evolving landscape. Additionally, they need integrated hardware-software co-design solutions, spanning from silicon through to full systems, to minimize development costs and mitigate risks associated with production timelines. Synopsys has established itself as a trusted ally within the global automotive ecosystem, with over 50 OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers utilizing its virtual prototyping technologies, supported by a library of more than 1,000 virtual models ranging from SoC IP to board-level integrated circuits (ICs) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
SiMa.ai specializes in high-performance, power-efficient machine learning system-on-chip (MLSoC) solutions tailored for the embedded edge. The SiMa.ai technology stack prioritizes flexibility, supporting an extensive range of models, sensors, and applications while automatically optimizing them for optimal performance.
The collaborative solution from Synopsys and SiMa.ai aims to enable: – Early architecture exploration – Shift-left methodologies for software development – Cost-effective, differentiated in-vehicle experiences – Continuous upgradeability of automotive edge AI solutions.
Ravi Subramanian, head of the Synopsys Product Management and Markets Group, stated, “Our partnership with SiMa.ai marks a significant advancement in the modernization of hardware/software co-design processes for automotive manufacturers, enabling them to address the increasingly intricate and costly demands of next-generation in-car experiences.
