Ericsson and Vodafone, a top telecommunications company, have announced a five-year partnership to advance Vodafone’s network in several key markets.
Ericsson will be the main supplier of radio access network (RAN) technology for Vodafone in Ireland, the Netherlands, and Portugal. They will also be a major supplier in Germany, Romania, and Egypt.
This strengthens the long-term connection between the two companies. The upgrade of Vodafone’s RAN will help them to start using 5G technology fully, offering their customers better internet services, both for individuals and businesses.
As part of this partnership, Vodafone will use Ericsson’s advanced radio technology and software to enhance its networks in these countries. This includes new tools to help manage and optimize the network efficiently.
Germany will be the first country to use the new technology and instruments starting in late 2025. This partnership aims to bring Vodafone’s networks to high international standards and prepare them for future needs.
Alberto Ripepi, Vodafone’s Chief Network Officer, said: “This partnership with Ericsson is an important step in evolving our network. By using the latest technology and improving our network’s abilities, we can provide the best experiences for our customers and run our network more efficiently. We’re also working on new opportunities to connect our network with developers, which can lead to new apps and services.”
Patrick Johansson, a senior executive at Ericsson, said: “We are happy to grow our partnership with Vodafone. This agreement supports our goal of creating strong, programmable networks, helping Vodafone deliver better services to its customers and find new ways to earn money in the telecommunications market.”
Vodafone will also improve its network using Ericsson’s advanced software, which will help manage the network more smartly and efficiently.
