Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has begun shipping out samples of a new product, “TB9M001FTG.” This is the second product in its Smart Motor Control Driver series, known as SmartMCD. This product features a specialized controller that enables control over motors and switches.
The new SmartMCD™ can drive two brushed DC motors and also work as a relay driver. It features four low-side drivers, which enable the control of relays and allow the motors to move forward and backward. It features a built-in microcontroller (which is like a small computer) based on the Arm® Cortex®-M0, along with a good amount of flash memory for storage.
It also includes two high-side drivers and a LIN transceiver, a type of communication tool used in vehicles. All of these parts fit into a compact package that measures just 7 x 7 mm. This SmartMCD is useful for controlling DC motors in cars, such as power sunroofs, electric wipers, power windows, and power seats.
It can also manage various sensors and other parts in the vehicle. Furthermore, it can be controlled through LIN by the main computer in the vehicle, making it helpful for various functions. Toshiba plans to continue adding new products to its SmartMCD series to help make automotive systems smaller and reduce the number of parts required in cars.
