In a move that could redefine the global aviation industry, Riyadh Air has announced a strategic partnership with IBM to build what it calls the world’s first AI-native airline, integrating artificial intelligence into nearly every operational, customer and commercial layer of the business.

This new approach aims to greatly improve the experiences of both guests and employees and sets a new standard for innovation in the airline industry.

IBM Consulting has coordinated this ambitious project, involving 59 different work initiatives and more than 60 partners, including major companies like Adobe, Apple, FLYR, and Microsoft. Using the IBM Consulting Advantage platform, designed to speed up the creation of value, IBM consultants have ensured the airline’s technology strategy is implemented smoothly.

With initial flights already in operation and its first commercial service expected to launch in early 2026, this three-year partnership between Riyadh Air and IBM has reached a crucial stage.

Adam Boukadida, the Chief Financial Officer of Riyadh Air, stated, “We had a clear choice: to be the last airline built on old technology or the first to use the platforms that will shape the future of aviation. With IBM, we have eliminated decades of outdated systems in one go. Riyadh Air isn’t just prepared for today; it is designed for the future and sets an example for other airlines to follow.”

Mohamad Ali, Senior Vice President of IBM Consulting, added, “By embedding AI into its core operations, Riyadh Air is creating a new model for building a modern and flexible business from the ground up. As a company that was established in the AI era, Riyadh Air is redefining what is possible in aviation, and it has been a privilege for IBM to help turn this vision into reality.”
