IBM and BharatGen announced a partnership to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. This partnership will utilise BharatGen’s specially designed models tailored to India’s languages and culture.
The goal is to combine IBM’s knowledge in AI technology and data management with BharatGen’s national mandate and expertise to create inclusive, India-centric sovereign multimodal and Large Language Models (LLMs) rooted in the indigenous context and values.
This project aims to develop and enhance AI models capable of understanding various languages, with applications across multiple sectors, including education, agriculture, finance, healthcare, and public services.
As part of this partnership, BharatGen and IBM will focus on:
Developing solutions specifically for Indian needs using BharatGen’s models along with IBM’s AI technologies, including IBM Granite Models.
Creating demonstrations and examples for using these technologies in sectors like education and healthcare.
Building a system to prepare and manage data using open-source tools that also cater to Indian languages.
Implementing rules to ensure that the models are developed responsibly and ethically.
Establishing new standards that are particularly tailored to Indian languages and sectors.
Researching new technologies and model designs that take advantage of the expertise from both IBM and BharatGen to create advanced AI models.
Ganesh Ramakrishnan from BharatGen said, “We are creating AI models that reflect the languages and cultures of our people. Working with IBM helps us bring global research and advanced systems to India.”
He added that with IBM’s strong technology and BharatGen’s focus on beneficial AI, they can create solutions that help India grow in areas like agriculture, finance, education, and governance.
Sandip Patel, the Managing Director of IBM India and South Asia, mentioned, “We are dedicated to creating open and trustworthy AI that solves real problems.” He expressed that through the collaboration with BharatGen, they aim to develop AI tools that represent India’s diverse culture and make a positive impact in many fields.
