HMC E-Valley Pvt. Ltd. (HIVE), the Hi-Tech Valley for advanced manufacturing for e-mobility and KPIT Technologies Limited, a global leader in mobility software, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set upan Independent Center of Excellence (CoE) in Delhi-NCR . The CoE will provide design and engineering services for manufacturers of micromobility and L-category electric vehicles (LEVs) OEMs, including e-bicycles.
Industry commentary in the announcement emphasised that more than half of urban trips congregate within last-mile and short-haul journeys — the precise terrain where e-bikes, light scooters, and L-category vehicles can deliver outsized societal and environmental value. By combining end-to-end engineering with scale manufacturing, the HIVE–KPIT tie-up aims to shorten time-to-market for OEMs and de-risk programmes that historically suffer from fragmented suppliers and weak hardware-software integration.
As more people move into cities and the demand for sustainable transport grows, flexible ways to travel are becoming essential. Light electric vehicles like e-scooters help people get from home to work and back, especially for the first and last parts of their journeys. Today, over half of all travel happens in these short segments. The partnership between KPIT and HIVE brings together strong software expertise and manufacturing experience to create new, practical solutions for city transportation.
“The Light Electric Vehicle industry is at a pivotal juncture, demanding a fusion of cutting-edge hardware and smart software. This partnership with KPIT is a powerful convergence of those forces, signifying HIVE’s deep commitment to redefining urban mobility by delivering the next generation of high-quality, sustainable micromobility solutions globally.“ – Mr. Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman of HMC (Hero Motors Company).
“Mobility’s future, even for small electric vehicles, depends on smart software and smooth system integration. KPIT’s technology expertise will help the new Center of Excellence create safe, affordable, and top-quality LEV platforms. We are proud to join forces with HIVE to make city travel safer, smarter, and cleaner,” said Mr. Kishor Patil, CEO & Managing Director of KPIT Technologies.
