Eaton announced that it is enabling the transition to high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power infrastructure in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers. The company is collaborating with NVIDIA to develop more effective designs, guidelines, and power management solutions.
The solutions are designed for high-performance computing systems, such as the NVIDIA Kyber rack systems that utilize NVIDIA Rubin Ultra GPUs. It includes moving towards an 800 V high-voltage direct current (HVDC) system to support powerful computer systems that need 1 megawatt of power or more. Eaton is also exploring how its solutions can be utilized in the NVIDIA Omniverse Blueprint for designing and operating AI factories.
Experts predict that spending on data centers worldwide will reach over $1 trillion by 2029, as companies invest in systems that can handle the complex tasks needed for training and using AI models. As part of the NVIDIA Partner Network, Eaton is using its knowledge in power management and a wide range of technologies to create systems that can meet the growing energy needs of AI projects, from the power grid down to the chips inside the computers.
Heath Monesmith, the president of Eaton’s Electrical Sector, said, “With our many years of experience in power management and our wide selection of solutions, Eaton is in a great position to support the needs of data centers in this new AI age. By joining forces with NVIDIA and other industry leaders, we can better meet the tough power, cooling, and operational challenges of data centers and AI factories.”
Eaton’s approach focuses on power management from the grid to the individual chips in data centers, providing intelligent power distribution systems, backup power solutions, and digital tools that are essential for keeping operations running smoothly and using energy efficiently in AI environments. They also offer consulting services and expert advice to help customers use NVIDIA technologies.
