LAS VEGAS: MediaTek took centre stage at NRF 2026, the retail industry’s premier technology event, unveiling a suite of connected solutions designed to power the next wave of smart retail innovation. The company’s latest advancements highlight the convergence of high-speed connectivity and artificial intelligence to redefine both operational efficiency and consumer engagement.
Among the key announcements, MediaTek introduced a cutting-edge IoT platform that integrates 5G and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity with advanced edge AI and multimedia capabilities.
Powered by an octa-core ARMv9 CPU and an embedded NPU, the platform is engineered to enable generative AI applications directly at the network edge.
Connectivity as the New Retail Backbone
Beyond AI compute, connectivity was a central theme of MediaTek’s NRF presence. The company showcased solutions built on high-performance Wi-Fi, 5G, and IoT-grade connectivity designed for dense retail environments.
Retailers today operate increasingly complex digital ecosystems—POS systems, electronic shelf labels, smart cameras, digital kiosks, and handheld employee devices. MediaTek’s messaging was clear: without stable, scalable connectivity, intelligent retail experiences collapse under their own complexity.
By integrating connectivity and AI into unified silicon platforms, MediaTek aims to simplify deployment while lowering total cost of ownership—an argument that resonates strongly with retailers operating on thin margins.
“NRF 2026 presents an ideal forum to demonstrate how connectivity and intelligence are transforming retail productivity and customer experience,” said CK Wang, General Manager of MediaTek’s IoT Business Unit. “Our latest computing, connectivity, and edge AI platforms are tailored to keep retailers ahead as the sector rapidly evolves.”
The company spotlighted its Genio platform, emphasizing its role as a cornerstone for edge AI in smart retail and hospitality. Key features include support for Vision AI, on-device generative AI, dual-display functionality, remote POS management, 4K resolution, and advanced smart kiosks with self-checkout.
More than 35 technical demonstrations showcased how retailers can deliver a ‘store of the future.’ Highlights included automated shelf management, real-time inventory tracking, frictionless payment systems, and AI-powered tools to optimize operations and elevate customer interactions.
